About ExploringNWO

I enjoy photography and things that fly, model aircraft have been a long-time hobby and now I've found a fun way to combine the two with a quadcopter. I created this page and YouTube channel to house the videos from the quadcopter, I mainly am interested in cool weather events and seeing other unique natural phenomena from a different viewpoint. I will update this page with videos as I get them so check back often!

Maumee River Ice at Orleans Park in Perrysburg

Orleans Park in Perrysburg is a popular spot for Walleye Run fishing. This video was taken on March 10, 2015. This section of the river is still very frozen but it is starting to thaw; there is standing water on top of the ice in many spots and open water starting to appear in spots [...]

Frozen Metzger Marsh in Jerusalem, Ohio

I visited Metzger Marsh on February 13, 2015. The temperature was 6 degrees the morning I was out there, I could see ice fisherman a couple miles out in the lake but there was no activity at all at the shore where I was.

The Schoonmaker

Spent some time tonight downtown on the east side of the river shooting some time lapses and long exposures. We have a beautiful city! The Schoonmaker looks especially cool at night in the frozen river. #igers_toledo #toledo A photo posted by Shawn-Exploring NW Ohio (@exploringnwo) on Jan 27, 2015 at 7:49pm PST

Installing a Zenmuse H3-3D Gimbal onto a DJI Phantom Vision

I've had a Phantom Vision sitting on the shelf for nearly a year. I just wasn't happy with the single dimension stabilization and simply haven't used it because of this. I finally removed the Vision FC200 Camera and Gimbal and installed a Zenmuse H3-3D Gimbal so that I could fly my GoPro camera. The process [...]

Toledo Walleye Winterfest at Fifth Third Field

The Toledo Walleye and many other hockey leagues played outdoor games on the rink and at times there were 11,000+ fans in the stadium! Below is a playlist of [...]

Sackcloth and Ashes

Sackcloth and Ashes has an amazing mission! For every blanket purchased, they send one to YOUR local homeless shelter, what a great thing! I set out with some friends to photograph a bed along side the Maumee River for a little instagram project, I had the flying camera along and took this quick video while [...]

My DIY Exterior Dropcam Mount

This is a bit off topic but I love the Dropcam, I have a couple of them and have them setup at home at my office building. I really wanted to put one on the roof at work so this video is showing how I managed to do that. I started with the plans I [...]
